Too Long

Wow!  It has been a while since my last post.  In the past year I have gotten married, graduated college, and got a new teaching job.  JT and I are moving to Oakley, KS in August.  I have a 5th grade teaching osition waiting for me there.  Wish us luck on our move!

First Lesson

Today I taught my first lesson to a group of students! I know I have taught religious education before, but this lesson was following the standards and I created it all on my own. We did predictions over the book Rumpelstiltskin's Daughter. The kids loved it and I was so excited to see the students learning and giving great feedback. I even have some artwork from the students that I'm going to treasure for a while. I LOVE TEACHING!!!!

Welcome 2011!

Hello all! Another year has come and gone and what a year it was. My year ended with getting engaged on Christmas Day to JT VanGilder! It was an awesome Christmas and one that I soon won't be forgetting. We are planning on having the wedding before classes start in August. He will be graduated by then and I will have one year left of school. :D
I also ended out the year on a bowl game trip with the KSUMB! It was a fun filled trip to NYC and we left on the 26th of December on buses. We returned to Kansas on the 1st of January. JT and I got to sight see for a day and a half and we also did a pep rally and then of course the game. It was unfortunate that the cats were unable to pull out a win in the game but it was still a cool experience...did I mention that the trip was free?!
Now the Spring Semester is getting ready to start and I'm anxious. I am ready to get going with school so I can actually feel like I'm accomplishing something in the day rather than just sitting around doing nothing. I am working at Haymaker Hall again and as an academic mentor but that only takes up a little bit of my time.
I would also like to say Happy Anniversary to my cousin Jessica and her husband Kurtis on Sunday. They will be celebrating their first anniversary! Just come home safe Kurtis!

Amazing Cupcakes!

These are cupcakes that my sister makes. They are amazing and a hit with everyone. I am going to make these cupcakes for my brother's graduation next Sunday and my mom is going to decorate them. Enjoy!

Cookie Dough Cupcake with Chocolate ButterCream Frosting

Ingredients

Cupcakes
24 paper liners for cupcake pans (2 1/2-inch size)
1 package (18.25 ounces) plain yellow cake mix
1 package (3.4 ounces) vanilla instant pudding mix
1 cup whole milk
1 cup vegetable oil
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 package (1 pound) frozen cookie dough - any kind will work, I like the break and bakes that come in a pack of 24

Chocolate Buttercream
8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
3 to 5 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions
Place a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven to 350°F. Line 24 cupcake cups with paper liners. Set the pans aside.

Place the cake mix, pudding mix, milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl. Blend with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds. Stop the machine and scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula. Increase the mixer speed to medium and beat 2 minutes more, scraping down the sides again if needed. The batter should look well blended. Spoon or scoop a heaping 1/4 cup batter into each lined cupcake cup, filling it two thirds of the way full. (You will get between 22 and 24 cupcakes; remove the empty liners, if any.)

Cut the frozen dough pieces in half to make 24 pieces. Place a frozen cookie dough piece on top of each cupcake. Place the pans in the oven.

Bake the cupcakes until they are golden and spring back when lightly pressed with your finger, 23 to 27 minutes. Remove the pans from the oven and place them on wire racks to cool for five minutes. Run a dinner knife around the edges of the cupcake liners, lift the cupcakes up from the bottoms of the cups using the end of the knife, and pick them out of the cups carefully with your fingertips. Place them on a wire rack to cool for 15 minutes before frosting. They may sink a bit in the center.

While the cupcakes cook, prepare the Chocolate Buttercream.

Place the butter and cocoa powder in a large mixing bowl. Blend with an electric mixer on low speed until the mixture is soft and well combined, 30 seconds.

Stop the machine and add the confectioners' sugar, three tablespoons of the milk, and the vanilla. Blend with the mixer on low speed until the sugar is incorporated, one minute. Increase the speed to medium and beat until light and fluffy, one minute more. Add one to two tablespoons more milk if the frosting is too stiff.

Place a heaping tablespoon of frosting on each cupcake and swirl to spread it out with a short metal spatula or a spoon, taking care to cover the tops completely. The cupcakes are ready to serve.

Back in the Field

Well I am back in Winfield for the summer. I will definitely miss Manhattan and all the people that is for sure. I am ready for summer but I am also ready to be back in school next year. I love school what can I say, but then again these are the best years of my life I'm told. So with that being said it would be horrible to wish these days away.

Happy Mother's Day

I want to wish a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to my amazing mom, Carolyn Heptig. She has always been there for me whenever I want to talk about the tiniest problem. She has always pushed me to be better and to follow my dreams. I had a break down before leaving for Manhattan this year and she was there to tell me everything will be ok and I will love Manhattan and I would regret not going if I chose not to go.

End of Junior Year

Well the end of my Junior year at KSU is coming to an end. I am excited but I'm ready. I'm scared that I am actually going to go out into the real world in TWO YEARS!!! Agh!!! Next week is dead week followed by finals the week after. I'm excited but like I said it is scary that reality is actually hitting. I am ready for next year. I have two jobs lined up for next year and I'm looking forward to marching band! Yay Band!!!

Life's Ups and Downs

Ok so last time I said that Brian and I were doing well. It just so happens that on Friday Brian broke up with me. I understand his reasoning, it just couldn't have happened at a worse time. This week I have two papers due, one exam, and then everything else I have to do on a normal week. I am still recovering from what happened but I'm trying to stay strong. Brian and I are able to be friends right now and I know it would be much harder for the two of us if we decided not to be friends. He says that he has to figure some things out with his life and if he could figure them out while still dating me he would have. There is still a chance that the two of us could get back together in the future, but I'm going to see where things go and just stay friends. If getting back together is what God has in store for us, then who is to argue with God? The one thing that is really bothering me is that some of my friends are trying to give me advice on the situation. I know that they think that they are doing good, but what I need right now is someone who is understanding and just listens to what I have to say. My friend Rachel is doing a wonderful job of this because she went through the same situation with her boyfriend and they are doing well now. I will just wait and see what happens and just go with the flow right now and see where life takes me. Well I must get back to my book for one of my papers...

Too Long

Ok so it has been toooo long since I have posted last. Some updates! I got accepted into the College of Education professional program this Spring, this means that I will only have two years left!!!! Also, I was chosen to be a College of Education Ambassador which means I have the opportunity to inform prospective students about how awesome KSU is and how awesome the degree program is here. It will also look good on a resume when I begin teaching. I also have two job interviews coming up next week (I will let you know what happens when I get word.) Finally, I am going to apply to be a substitute teacher for next year as well.
One other thing is that I got a hamster this February. His name is Willard "Willy" Haymaker Heptig. I must say it makes things nice to know that there is something that I have to care for on a regular basis and he makes me smile when I'm feeling down, Brian also does that as well. Speaking of Brian, I have been officially dating him for a little over five months.
I think that is all I have for now. I will post more as my life unfolds.

A New Addition

This past weekend has been a hectic one with the end of the regular football season, but it will continue...I can feel a win over the Huskers coming on. Well amidst all the craziness a new little Schroeter-Heptig was born. On Sunday, November 15th little Julia Schroeter-Heptig was born. She was born at 3:11 California time so it was 5:11 here in Kansas. I'm super excited to have a new little niece. Both Christiane and her are doing well from the infomation that I have gathered from my mom. I will post pictures of her when I get them.

Haymaker 7 Fun

Well tonight was another attempt by my friends and I to pass the time. I did my homework but it seems as though they were trying to put it off... However a good time was had by all. The evening started off with a study session and then it evolved in to playing a few amazingly awesome games of Twister. I love my roommate Emma for bringing the game with her!!! Thanks Emma!!! Where did Fall go?

This is totally crazy! This past weekend has been 40 degrees and lower. Friday was a nice day, but it was the last nice day for a while. I was informed by my section leader, Ben, that Friday was the last day of Fall and that it should have been enjoyed. This is very saddening. The rest of the Marching Band season will be very cold and very interesting, especially when there is snow on the ground. I only wish our uniforms allowed us to wear more clothing under them so that we can stay warm.
Life has been going good though. I have met this boy that is in my section in the band and we have kinda hit it off for the chance of a relationship. I'm very excited and have a smile on my face. Its nice to smile all the time and have a reason to smile. LIFE IS GOOD! (except for the cold)

Update

Wow!!! So it has been a while since I have posted anything at all. Things are going swell in college. I love it eventhough it has its ups and downs, such is life. It has been pretty hectic though. The marching band is currently learning a new show for this coming Saturday to the tunes from the musical group Chicago. From my spot on the field, the show looks like it is coming along great. I love the band and it keeps me busy so I don't get homesick.
I have also met many new friends. Today we had a floor dinner. It was awesome and the theme was un-classy Monday, last Monday was classy Monday. We everyone that could go, or wanted to go (some people think they are just to cool), wore their pj's to the Derby Dinning Center and ate dinner together. It is a blast and I have no idea what the next theme is going to be but I'm sure it is going to be fun. I also have the Best roommate ever!!! Emma is amazing!!! I was so worried about getting a bad roommate that I'm super excited to have an awesome one like her. Our room is the room everyone comes to to watch TV since we are one of the few rooms that has cable, I would be lost without cable so of course we had to get it, and a group got together today to watch the Season Premier of House. I love how we are making it a habit to invite people over to just hang out. Also we keep our door open when ever we are here so we can meet the people on our floor and even people who aren't on our floor that just pass by. So all in all I love College!!!

First Week of Class

Well it's official. Classes have started for the 2009 Fall Semester. I like all of my classes and they will definitely make for an interesting semester. I am taking Children's Literature, Intro to Political Science, Macro Economics, Earth in Action, Earth in Action Lab, Into to Teaching at KSU, and Marching Band. Band is a no credit class and it is fun, except when the turf starts to melt your shoes and you are begging to move so your feet stay cool, other than that band is very fun. The earliest my day starts is 7:30 am, but it is only for 3 weeks, and the latest I'm in class it until 1:15. Practice is at 3:30 and only lasts for two hours so that isn't to bad after coming off the week of camp and it is only twice a week, three times if we have a game that Saturday. My roommate is also amazing. Emma and I get along really well together. I promise to post some pictures of the room when everything gets totally situated. My parents were nice enough to bring the couch up that they have had for years. It fits perfectly under Emma's bed and then the TV and dressers are under my bed. It is definitely a home away from home. The only problem is that the closets are way to small, especially since I have to store my uniform in it and it takes up a lot of room.

Marching Band

Yesterday marked the start of the wonderfull life of a Big 12 Marching Band Student. I started camp yesterday for the Pride of Wildcat Land the Kansas State Marching Band. It has been a good experience so far but I'm so tired and sore. Standing at attention for extended periods of time can really put some strain on the back and don't mention holding the clarinet in the correct playing and carrying position can really start to wear on a person. I'm just glad that I don't play a large instrument like the Tuba or some kind of drum. We did however get new uniforms this year, so this means that no stinky person has ever worn mine before. All of the uniforms were either donated by someone in the community or they were in memory of a fallen soldier in the current War on Terror. All the hard work the band is going through this week will be well worth it when we take our first steps onto Bill Snyder Family Statdium, however, I will most likely be shell shocked and not play that first pre-game. I'm super excited for the year to get started.

We also have a ball cap, a secondary uniform, gloves, and black shoes with white overlays. We are definatly going to look smooth when we take that field.

Manhattan!!!

Thursday was my last day of work at Quail Ridge. It was a relief to not have to work any more but everyone there will be dearly missed. Marcia threw a party for everyone who was leaving.

Well it is official. I am now a resident of Haymaker Hall at Kansas State University. I moved in this morning and some things are still in boxes but for the most part everything is in somewhat of an order. Here are some before and after pictures of my Room.

Here's a funny story of what happened this evening. I got back from eating dinner at Christie's, dinner was awesome btw Christie. Well I'm relaxing in my room listening to music and on the computer and two girls knock on my door. Well the location of my room is right across the hall from the bathroom and let's say the girls didn't have any clothing with them and all they had on were towels. The story is the girls locked their key in their room and didn't want to go down to the front dest in just their towels to get their key. So they knocked on my door and of course I went down to the lobby for them and luckily our RA was in the lobby and she came up and unlocked the door for the girls. Lesson here is always take your key even if you think the door is unlocked. I just thought that was an interesting way to meet some new people on my first night here.

Change in Plans

Well tomorrow is my last day of work at Quail Ridge Golf Course. It is going to be bitter sweet to leave since many people will be missed but I'm looking forward the the new adventures that I'm going to have when school starts up. I was originally planning on staying with Christie for a week starting Sunday, unfortunatly some plans may have changed. I was going to move into the dorms on Saturday the 22nd but with the camp that I'm going to, the schedule doesn't allow anytime for move in. I was told by one of the directors of the band that the official move in for the band is on Monday the 17th. I could also move in on Sunday the 23rd but classes start the next day and I'm thinking I am going to need more time to adjust before class starts. I'm excited to meet my new roommate Emma though. Also, moving in on Monday will allow me to have the pick of what side of the room and everything like that. I want the bed that isn't infront of the door.

20 Years Have Passed

As of yesterday I am now 20 years old. My cousin Jessica and her boyfriend Kurtis came down to help celebrate my birthday along with my Aunts Brenda and Peggy. Christie also came down for a wedding and helped celebrate with everyone. My Aunt Brenda made me a cake and it was amazing. The cake had a huge powercat on top. We went to the fair and went to the demo derby and then went to the casino on Saturday night. I ended up winning a little money at the casino and I got to play on some of the casino's money since it was my birthday. They even announced my name over the casino's intercom. Thank you to everyone who helped me celebrate my birthday and wished me a happy birthday.
The next step is to get packed up and move up to Manhattan in the next two weeks.
